Highlights of the October Meeting
of the WIMGA Board of Directors

Local reps were invited to this meeting, so everyone present introduced themselves and mentioned a gardening gamble they’ve taken recently.

The Coordinator’s update included several reminders about turning in hours, the annual accomplishment report, and sending me your events to put on the website and in the newsletter. Also, a second Costa Rica tour is being offered since the original one is full. Contact Mary Kroening at (573) 881-6316 ASAP if you’re interested in the trip!

The 2009 WIMGA Annual Conference Committee reported that 302 people have registered so far, but there may be a few additional walk-ins. The tours Friday afternoon were very successful and enjoyed by the participants, despite the weather.

The 2010 WIMGA Annual Conference Committee has everything planned for the conference next year (July 23-24), with all their speakers confirmed. A short PowerPoint presentation was shown on the optional tour that will be offered to Christopher Farm and Gardens on Lake Michigan, Bookworm Gardens, and the UW-Sheboygan campus where the conference will be held.

The 2011 WIMGA Annual Conference will be in Madison on Aug 5-6, in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the MG program in Dane Co.

Len Demert, outgoing Southern District Director from Grant Co., presented the Southern District report. They met and discussed a number of issues relevant to the member groups, especially retention. The new Director for the Southern District is Bonnie Weiland-Hare.

The Long Range Planning Committee reported on the meeting that was held last April, with the ideas that focused on strengthening local rep connections. The next meeting will be spent developing action plans based on the decisions made at the last meeting.

The WIMGA needs a local association (or group of associations) to host the 2012 WIMGA Annual Conference. The Conferences Committee is really hoping that it can be held in the north, west or central part of the state, as many of the recent conferences have been in the southern half of the state.

The current WIMGA officers were re-elected.

The Finance Committee presented the YTD expenses and proposed budget. Receipts were greatly enhanced by SEW MGA’s donation of $5,000 in lieu of conference profits (there was a loss). Educational grants have not yet been paid out. There will be another $3,000 contribution to the MG Foundation Fund later this year. As far as the proposed budget, the only significant difference from previous years is a reduction in newsletter costs (because actual expenses are lower than in previous years because of electronic distribution).

The deadline for dues is January 15. Please let the appropriate person in your association know that a list must be sent in with the names of only WIMGA members (not everyone in the group), preferably in electronic form (Excel, Word, etc. file) IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER.

The Spring Face-to Face will be at the Ramada Inn in Stevens Point on April 10, 2010.

The Washington Co. MGA has petitioned to join the WIMGA. A decision will be made at the next meeting after the executive committee reviews their by-laws. .

The next meeting will be November 12 at 4:30 by WisLine.
