The
mission of the Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association (WIMGA) is to support and
provide leadership to individuals and local organizations in their mission to assist University of
Wisconsin Extension (UWEX) in community horticultural programs through volunteerism,
education, and environmental stewardship. The WIMGA is the communication link between MGs
throughout the state and a voice for ideas and issues relating to the MG program. Members
of the WIMGA Board of directors sit on the WIMGA Advisory Committee with UWEX Horticulture
Specialists and Agents to recommend policy for the program.
The WIMGA was formed in 1991 by MGs from around the state. There are now 42 local MG associations that belong to the WIMGA. There are also active MGs who are individual members of the WIMGA that do not yet have a local association in their area, and there are some active MG groups and individuals in Wisconsin who are not yet members of the WIMGA.
The MG Program Office publishes a bimonthly newsletter (6 issues/year) that is sent to all WIMGA members that have paid their annual state association dues.
A Board of Directors, comprised of one representative from each local association as well as appointed members at large and selected extension agent members, establishes and implements Association goals and strategies.
Any MG can become a member of the statewide WIMGA by paying $5 dues to the WIMGA Treasurer by January 31 (through their local association, unless there is no local group). Those enrolled in general training through the MG Program Office have one year's membership included in their fees. Benefits of membership include 6 issues per year of the newsletter mailed (or sent electronically, upon request) directly.
