New London Pfeifer Park

The 2002 Children’s Garden

The young gardeners at the New London children's garden. The New London children’s garden program started June 7th for 12 weeks with eighteen young gardeners enrolled. Classes were held Friday mornings from 9 am to 10:30 am in Pfeifer Park next to the tennis courts. MGs presented programs and supervised activities.

Every week a new gardening concept was introduced by the MGs. There were a variety of activities, stories and games to reinforce the ideas. Some of the program topics included Who Put Seeds in my Dirt Cake, Abracadabra-Magic in the Garden, and Tea Party in our Garden. The children also learned about bugs, worms, solar energy, and birds and bees. They ended the program with Harvest Day by making stone soup and having a family day.

Harvest time!  Another activity in the garden.
