Tending to the many tubs of flowers and other plants for the Walworth Co. Fair.

Flower Fair Tubs
The Walworth County Fair Board was extremely pleased with our 30 flower tubs this year that were scattered throughout the fair. We requested, and they purchased for us, special planters — ones that look like concrete, but can be picked up with one hand when empty. Under our direction, they also purchased lightweight but sturdy planting "liners" that we then passed out to the MG volunteers to take home and fill with plants of their choice three months before the Fair. Guidelines were printed and handed out with the liners, but the MG’s had free reign as far as plant selection and theme. On the appointed day, three days before the Fair was to begin, all the liners were dropped off at the Fair office, placed in their decorative tubs, and signs were placed in each tub listing the names of the plants, and the MG responsible. The project was highly successful, and we got lots of positive feedback from the Fair Board and the public alike. The Fair board would like to increase our project to 40 tubs next year!

Some of our other activities included creating a rock garden at the entrance to the Lakeland Animal Shelter and eight tubs filled with donated annuals to welcome visitors along the driveway:

We also had a pruning workshop that was very successful, despite the weather:
