Once again the Thyme Shares MGV & Friends will be holding their annual fruit tree fund-raiser sale.
In 2009, we will be offering asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes along with the fruit trees.
The fruit trees will be provided by the Adams County Nursery of Aspers, Pennsylvania. Most trees are 4-6 feet in height and 1/2 inch in diameter. The trees have always arrived healthy and transplant success rates have been very high. We have 900 trees on order for this upcoming sale...some new varieties and some old favorites.
Based on the high demand of last year, we have secured more peaches (Madison & Reliance) along with a new variety of white fleshed peach (Raritan Rose) which has the same hardiness rating as the other two.
We will be offering 10 varieties of apples.- two which are the disease resistant varieties. Also new, is Chestnut a true crabapple tree - great for jellies & preserves along with being a very pollinator of all your other apple trees. Cherries, plums & pears will be the other trees available.
Blueberries were in short supply last year and sold-out very early. We have secured 200 plants of the Blue Ray blue crop variation. These will be 18-24" bare root plants. They come to us from Kriegers nursery in Michigan. They are high bush type and rated as Zone 4 so they are well suited for growing in our area.
Order forms containing details on all the plants & trees being offered will
be mailed out shortly after the first of 2009 with distribution of all orders to
take place in mid-April {exact date yet to be determined}. Persons wishing to
receive an order form or who have any questions can call committee members Mary
& Frank Trostle at (608) 981-2907.
