This association from Green Co. and surrounding areas became the 39th member of the WIMGA in April 2004. Many of the members in the SCWMGA are certified or intern MGs that have taken, or wish to take, training to become a MG through UW-Extension classes. However, members do not have to take the training to be a member of the association. The main functions of the group will be to serve the needs of all horticulturists in the Green County area, provide continuing education for it’s members, provide community services through volunteer activities, exchange gardening ideas, promote responsible and sound gardening practices and to provide a link between the community and UW-Extension.
The SCWMGA meets the fourth Thursday evening of every month at 7 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Government Service Building, N3150 Hwy 81, Monroe. A short business meeting is usually conducted and then a tour or presentation on gardening is conducted.
MGs are available to answer horticulture questions for Green County residents through the Green County UW-Extension Office. If you would like to receive assistance from a MG you can call UW-Extension at (608) 328-9440 to receive the phone number of a local MG that can best assist with your particular horticulture or gardening question.
The association provides speakers for local groups and garden clubs.
The association is currently working on designing and planting flower beds in several areas at the Pleasant View Complex and Nursing Home.
