Peninsular Research Station Show Garden

Door County Master Gardeners are assisting the staff at the Door County Peninsular Station in preparing and planting an approximately 36,000 square foot garden on the station’s grounds.  They have planted shrubs and trees, laid out beds, and recently constructed a rustic gazebo and fence.  In the future they will be planting of some of the perennial beds.

Annual Banquet

This October event is an opportunity for the MGs in Door Co. to recognize members who have made significant contributions to the program. In 2000 the banquet was held at the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor:

Humane Society Landscape Beds

Door County Master Gardeners planted landscape beds for the new humane society building erected in Door County in 1988.  Members obtained donations of plant material and supplies and planted the beds late in the fall.

Courthouse and Fairground Garden Beds

Door County Master Gardeners plant and maintain annual and perennial beds at the courthouse and fairgrounds.

Chamber of Commerce Bulb Sale

Door County Master Gardeners assist the Chamber with the distribution of daffodil and tulip bulbs sold by mail order by the Chamber.  The Chamber donates proceeds from this sale to the Door County Green Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to helping preserve the natural resources and vistas of Door County.

Annual Plant Propagation and Plant Sale

Master Gardeners every spring, using space donated by the Door County Peninsular Research Station, propagate seeds to grow plants that are then sold by Door County Master Gardeners at their annual Plant Sale held in late May. In 1988 55 different varieties of annuals were grown. In addition members constructed bird houses, hanging plant holders and trellises for sale at the plant sale. Members also donate perennial plants from their gardens. Residents of Door County look forward to the sale and by the end of the day few plants remain.
