
Irwin Goldman

Irwin Goldman is Associate Professor of Horticulture and Chair of the Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Irwin teaches Horticulture 370, World Vegetable Crops, Horticulture 501, Principles of Plant Breeding, Horticulture 502, Techniques of Plant Breeding, and Biocore 301, Evolutionary Biology. His research is focused on breeding and genetics of vegetable crops, human health attributes of vegetables, and the history of plant breeding. The primary crops studied in his group include carrot, onion, and table beet. He is actively involved in graduate education and chairs the new Coordinated Program in Plant Biology, which facilitates rotations for graduate students in the plant sciences. Irwin serves as Chair of the Department's Curriculum Committee and Scholarships Committee. He is also Chair of the Root and Bulb Crop Germplasm Committee of the USDA-ARS and currently serves as a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer.
