Plant Description
Yellow Foxtail is the most prominent of the three species fo
foxtail that can be found on cranberry marshes in Wisconsin. Giant Foxtail
and Green Foxtail are teh two other species which are also occasionally
observed. All species of foxtail are annual grasses that reproduce from
seed. Stems reach from 1-6 feet in height and seed heads range in size
from 1/6-1/12 inch depending on the particular species being observed.
Remarks
Foxtails can occasionally become serious pests in new and established
beds. Seed is often introduced by flood waters during harvest or by harvest
machinery. Dense stands may interfere with pesticide applications and harvest
machines.
