Plant Description
Barnyard grass is an annual grass reaching 1-4 feet in height.
Leaves are smooth and light green in color. Length ranges from 6-12 inches.
Roots are fibrous and shallow. The flower panicles are upright and bear
many branches that are green-purple in color. Seeds are tan to brown.
Remarks
Barnyard grass is common statewide. It can be found growing
as a weed in many agricultural crops including cranberries. It is a common
invader of new plantings and areas in established beds where the vines
are nto as dense. Seed is often introduced into beds during fall harvest
and winter flooding.
