Nightshade (Solanaceae)
A low growing annual plant ranging from 1-2 feet in height. The plant stem is erect or spreading and wiely branched. Leaves often are 5 lobed and triangular in shape. The plant produces white star shaped flowers during the months of May-July and a black colored berry during the months of August-September.
Nightshade is found commonly among cultivated fields, gardens and waste areas. In cranberry marshes, it may be found in new plantings and void areas in established beds. It may also be found on dikes near reservoirs. Seed is often introduced during bed construction or renovation.
