Pictures of Dwarf Columbine, Pyrenees Thrift, and Alpine Asters From top:
Tiny Aquilegia flabellata 'Mini Star' (Dwarf Columbine) may be small compared to other columbine species but has full-size flowers, Armeria caespitosa 'Bevan's Variety' (Pyrenees Thrift) is a miniature ornamental onion and Aster alpinus (Alpine Asters) is a vision in purple.

The Iberian Peninsula Garden is contiguous to the Alps Garden and runs along its western edge, therefore sharing the water feature.  It features several species of low-growing thyme (Thymus spp.), which sends up rose-pink flowers that carpet the garden in June.  Here you can also find miniature alpine versions of many plants common to the perennial border such as columbine (Aquilegia spp.), allium and aster (all pictured here).
